Boho Sunset Styled Shoot

This boho sunset styled shoot on the lake deserves a moment on our blog. We cannot get over all the gorgeous elements that made this shoot come together, and all the vendors that made it happen. This is an extra special blog post for us, as my fiancé and I (McKenzie) were the models for this shoot with our two kiddos who made it even more special. We were scheduled to get married in April of this year but had to postpone, and this styled shoot was a perfect opportunity for us to dress up and have a special day while we wait for our most special day to come next year.

When brainstorming with our team, we were determined to create something that we have never done before, something boho but elegant and modern at the same time. We wanted to use all of our favorite things, like a stunning farmhouse table and Chloe chairs from Alpine Events, a textured linen, colored goblets, colorful and texture driven floral, and so much more. There was no hiding the love of texture in this shoot. It brings so much dimension to a design.

We loved working with Kellie from Hetler Photography for this shoot. The location for the shoot was actually her parents’ lake house and it was beyond gorgeous. The ceremony location was right on the water and created a perfect setting as the sun went down and the reflection on the water created a perfect backdrop. For the reception space, we chose a grassy field also on their property.

Ceremony site

We were so lucky to have had Shelly from Shelly’s Designs Florist create all of the floral for the styled shoot. She truly went above and beyond and blew any expectations we could have had. We pitched a design, and she ran with it, starting with a show stopping bridal bouquet. The ceremony arbor boasted two huge floral accents, and the aisle was lined with compotes overflowing with pampas grass and palm leaves. The tablescape was an absolute dream with bud vases and small centerpieces filled with colorful floral, rich greenery, and airy grasses.

Gigi and Laclede provided all the elements of the place setting, from the charger to the glass ware. They have an amazing selection and some of the most unique pieces. We loved the water hyacinth charger with a crisp white plate, and the colored goblets from their sunkissed collection fit our design perfectly.

Charcuterie board place setting

Who doesn’t love a personal charcuterie board at every place setting? Being mindful of COVID concerns is a new part of our job, and aside from social distancing and masks, there are so many more factors when it comes to weddings that we are thinking about to make you and your guests as safe as possible without having to compromise too much. Plated apps or a personal charcuterie board like this are easy ways to eliminate food contamination from people sharing or helping themselves. And it adds to the place setting and looks so elegant!

All of the signage was actually DIY and turned out amazing. We had cut, painted, and Alaina on our team did the calligraphy to create a unique design element that tied all the spaces together.

Alaina again used her calligraphy skills to write our names on these broken terracotta pieces to use as place cards.

We were also able to DIY these terracotta candle holders. We loved the idea of using small terracotta planters for the taper candles, but we wanted to take that idea a little further, so we dipped them in paint to bring in more color and dimension.

Alpine Events satisfied all of our rental needs with tables, chairs, linens, buffet for the dessert display, and the perfect geometric arbor for the ceremony site. We always love working with them, and this shoot was no exception.

Lakeside ceremony location

This cigar and whiskey bar was our canvas for a dessert display with Nothing Bundt Cakes who is always so generous with their yummy treats! We used macramé again here with hanging macramé plants as a backdrop.

We absolutely cannot forget about Erick who 100% delivered on this warm toned copper makeup look and Carly who worked magic on a textured braid in the bride’s hair.
